Career Coaching

Hello there and if you’re looking to get a job, keep a job, lead a team or make a change – think about your salary and how much you’re prepared to invest in your own success:

£Nil? £300? £2,000? £5,000?

You’d be amazed how many people invest nothing and then wonder why they’re still struggling with their career. If you earn £300,000 or more over a 10 year period, how much is a reasonable amount to spend, in order to achieve that income?

I’m a leading UK writer and exec coach, specialising in Modern Careers. I’m a great coach and I love what I do, so when you book coaching time you also get unlimited telephone and email access, which is helpful when you need to hone your skills just before your next inteview. I also love using Transactional Analysis, as it’s a safe and productive way to unlock potential and develop transferable skills.

You can have coaching face to face, or over the telephone, or with Skype. Wherever you are in the world, you’re close enough to work with me.

Modern Career Management is about developing the skills you need to survive and thrive in the pick and mix world of working life. Once you have the skills and the confidence to get a job / keep a job / solve problems / lead people / go networking / manage time / embrace change / reduce pressure / deliver added value then you’re well placed to have a great life and do more rewarding and interesting work. We only have one working life and it’s worth investing in it.

Please go to the Contact Page and say hello or read on if you want to find out more about my business – Primary People Ltd – which mixes Modern Career Management with Organisational Development, for private individuals and a wide variety of organisations.

We Build Confidence

That’s why you’d chose to work with me or one of my colleagues from Primary People. We’ve been trading since 2003, we’re highly professional at what we do and we work to World Class standards*. We love it. We’re skillful and we truly believe that everyone can be great, when given diligent, passionate, practical support. We’re also fully accredited to the Institute of Leadership & Management and can run certificated vocational training courses.

Clients work with us because we can combine hands on practical experience of business management with Lean process improvement tools and deep-seated behavioural insights from Transactional Analysis. We use a co-creative coaching style to increase engagement and we use experiential teaching methods to increase effective retention of learning outcomes. We also like to have fun, because that’s a great way to learn.

Which Product Are You Interested In?

1) Coaching. We specialise in practical value-adding business coaching that combines coaching approaches with spot training inputs so that people can fill gaps and improve their performance. However, we know that people need support on a regular basis, so if you were a client you would benefit from free and unlimited telephone and email support between booked coaching sessions.

2) ILM Qualifications. We offer formally accredited coaching qualifications, aimed at managers, which can be delivered on-site on a 1-to-1 basis. This unique approach makes it easy for busy people to keep learning, allows them to learn in a safe environment and builds up their confidence so they can work successfully as an organisational coach, or to develop a coaching style of leadership. You can tailor the timescale to suit your diary and at the end can earn a nationally recognised Certificate or Diploma, from the Institute of Leadership and Management.

3) Outplacement. We are skilled at providing people with both the technical job hunting skills and, crucially, the confidence to succeed in a crowded market. If you need to find work, will you be investing to get ahead of the competition (we know how to get you there) or will you be trusting to luck? Getting support can propel you back into work faster than if you just rattle out CVs and spend time surfing the net. We’ve been working with senior managers at Cranfield University since 2004 and we know how to develop productive strategies, build a value-adding CV and hold worthwhile conversations at networking events and at interviews.

4) Workshops. We provide organisations with high quality management development sessions, that can last a day or can be combined to provide longer courses. Would you like to know what your stress reactions are and how they influence your time management at work? Our Time Management with a Twist workshop, for example, mixes practical skills with personal depth to enable people to make lasting changes. We can also run a TA101 for your organisation. This is a certificated two-day introduction to Transactional Analysis. The certificate is an internationally recognised standard and is great way to build up your CPD.

5) LaunchPad Profile. Probably the most comprehensive, practical and detailed trait-based profile available today, it’s used by Cranfield University, Airbus and a range of organisations to support outplacement, coaching, recruitment, team development and CPD work. It can be administered over the internet with results delivered via email, so it’s very easy to use. We can discuss your results with you over the telephone and can run development workshops for groups. The profile consists of 9 sections: (1) Team Role Types (2) Conflict Handling Styles (3) Personality Inventory (4) Activity Preferences (5) Work Styles (6) Professional-Managerial Preference (7) Learning Styles (8) Abstract Reasoning (9) Verbal Reasoning. If you want to celebrate strengths and identify areas for development this is a superb tool to use. LaunchPad is used by Primary People under licence from Percept Resource Management.

6) Consultancy. Some organisations need specific, tailored support and we can provide that. For example, we developed a coach-training programme for an organisation who wanted to have their own accreditation standard. We have recently supported a business to integrate a newly appointed Director into their executive team and we’ve been working alongside a team of change agents to develop project management processes and improve internal communications. What is frustrating you? Where can we support you, to broaden thinking or refine a process?

And…

Transactional Analysis (TA) is embedded in our business and is what gives our work depth. It helps our clients get to the root of an issue and we work collaboratively to bring about performance improvements. For example, a client earned his company £750,000 in sales revenue after a programme of practical leadership coaching. We were able to update his technical skills and his confidence which underpinned using them effectively. It’s this combination of practical skills and personal depth which clients find attractive in the way we work.

Our view is that we are all skillful, talented and worthwhile and that if we pool our resources we can straighten out the kinks in the organisation, team, leadership style or business processes that are getting in the way.

Remember, what we do is very simple; We Build Confidence.

*World Class: We teach at Cranfield University, reputed to be one of the top 5 universities in the world for management development and were part of the team that secured a Queen’s Award for Higher Education in 2005.
